Uphill Grind
And down hill into the wind.
Did the whole trail, from the house to the Golf Course, back to Crown Valley, and then out the Aliso Creek to Cooks corner. It was a quiet ride, not many folks out, but, the buggy brigade ladies and their dogs did take up the whole trail from port to starboard and couldn't figure out how to make a single file.
The high school had some class in gym clothes taking a leisurely stroll down the trail - sure hope it wasn't the track or cross country team, none of them were running. And, the landscape contractor was merrily watering the trail. Some of the water was actually watering plants, but the big truck that took up the whole trail was washing the trail with water.
What water crisis?

Saturday Morning Pain
Just to keep my perspective and to build a little more wind, I laced up my British Army Running Shoes and took off for a run in the hills, 'sprinting up (well what passes for sprinting at my stage of life and condition), and walking down.
Half way up the little notch that skiks Aliso Creek, I began to think, I'm 61 years old, is this really necessary? Well, no, but that's why it's important.
Today, my aching knees remind me why riding a bike is my choice for PT....

Thursday Morning Flat Out
Today's ride, my house to the Aliso Creek Golf Course on the Aliso Creek Trail. Headwinds make the ride down tougher than the uphill ride back.
Caught a big red coyote hunting for ground squirrels and crane looking for what ever cranes look for.

Tuesday Morning Climb
Top of the World: http://maps.google.com/maps?tab=wl&hl=en
It's only a 20.5 mile round trip from my house to there on the Aliso Creek Trail through Wood Canyon, but it's all up for half the ride, and hairy down on the way back.
It's a curious phenomena when coming up on pedestrians, that no matter how far back from them you call out, they think you are about to run them down. I'll like to tell them that straining to climb a rutted rise is hard enough without the prospect of navigating over a slow moving lump of hiker. Just move over, I'll miss you, but stopping, turning around, marinating on which way to go, causes me more stress, causes me to lose my line, and is the reason I fell over like a rag doll....

Friday Sweat
Busy day.
Sales meeting first thing. Met the new honcho (a nepotism promotion he's a cousin) whose goal it is to bring us back to national prominence after falling down due to the emphasis on gross. Then a post sales meeting meeting to cuss and discuss 'stuff'. The changes portend good.
Dashed home in time for Dr's appointment, fixed the flat tubes (you put enough patches on it, you can't go wrong apparently), then off to the training ride.
Concentrated on form, feet flat, pedal stroke like wiping gum off my shoes, arms bent, back straight. 24 miles out and back, 1:41:30. Steady climb up the Aliso Creek Trail, out to Cook's Corner (You may have heard it referred to as the Silverado Canyon or The Santiago Canyon Road Fire if you followed the California Fire Storm stories). Good aerobic workout, but all not so good. At one point during the climb - it's a trail off the road, so no traffic - I noticed huge birds flying around. Lots of wild life there so I stopped to see what they were. They were Turkey Buzzards! Decided to move on...
It was a bummer in one respect. I was supposed to go Geocaching with the grands. Instead me and the Lovely and Talented Miss Dorothy took them to see The Bee Movie, which was, uh, ok. I guess we're supposed to know that if the bees go on strike, it will be bad. Funniest line in the movie was the mosquito (played by Chris Rock), who a cow - ya just have to see the movie to get the connection - said to him, "You're a lawyer?" who answered, "Yah, I've always been a blood sucking insect, I just needed a brief case!" (Why did that make me think of John Edwards??????)
Next ride, The Top Of The World!
