Rough ride today - cold, windy, rainy. Only 39 miles. 3:07:28:06
Last ride was only 24.17 due to time. It was an early morning, a before work 'sprint'. 1:47:23
I've been listening to the talking heads tell me what's wrong with the Republican Party today. Not one ('cept maybe Rush) have got it figured out. The DC Repubs might just as well be Democrats. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the Democrats who elected Roosevelt would think today's crop of elected Republicans are socialists.
Shocking? Well, consider Social Security. Republicans who opposed it said it would lead to a national ID. Democrats said no, not only would the SSN never be used as a means of identification, Social Security itself was only a temporary fix to help us through the depression. When good times returned, SS would go away or be replaced with a personal retirement plan.
Today, you can't claim a new baby as a tax deduction unless said babe has an SSN. Vets, when did your SSN replace your serial number? Those Repubs were right, we have a national ID courtesy of SS.
Can you find a Republican today who wants to get rid of SS, or who is willing to go to the mat to privatize it?
We have 'serious' Republicans backing RINO In Chief John McCain. Excuse me, how is McCain Feingold a conservative idea? How can you back someone who is endorced by Joe Lieberman? Did you not pay attention during the amnesty debate? Jhn McCain backed the plan - still backs the plan. This man represents the Republican Party? I THINK NOT!!!!!
And all this talk about 'change'. Even Mr. Newt wants to change politics. While I think that's a noble idea, how is using government to force 'green' behavior on people a conservative idea? Saying the Reagan revolution is dead is conservative? The Reagan revolution was successful because Reagan trusted the people. Mr. Newt apparently thinks the government knows better than the people. That's conservative????
Even Mitt wants to change.... what? Is there not one remaining candidate who paid attention to the '06 election? The dems did not win because of an antiwar sentiment, they won because we got tired of supporting Republicans who acted like Democrats.
The Republican who gets my vote is the one who wants to return us to our roots. Not one who wants us to be 'socialists lites". Those "Republicans" can kiss my rosey red and get the hell out of my party.

Job Loss
OK, this is a red meat issue for us conservatives, right? We like to see "Made in America" on all the stuff we buy because that means our fellow Americans are working, making money, and spreading the greenbacks around the good old USA.
But it ain't happening. I sell foreign (Japanese made) cars. I sell a lot to former American label car buyers. They tell me they are just tired of cheap American made junk. When I was a kid, it was cheap Japanese junk. Now, everything, it seems, is made in some foreign place.
There's lots of reasons for this, but how does it get reversed? Do we, as some have suggested, (such as here) adopt the Canadian model and mandate a return to America of all jobs lost due to downsizing and out sourcing?
There is a book called The Capitalist Manifesto by Andrew Bernstein, that should be read by every American, and every American who belongs to a union.
I won't spoil the ending for you, but I will ask you, if you own the company that outsources your job, and that outsourcing makes the company more profitable, would you complain?
If Americans built quality products, and if unions would use their millions of dollars for buying on behalf of its membership, equipment that improved productivity. well, we'd all be able to sit on the veranda and sip our mint juleps.
And we wouldn't need a nanny state to force jobs on the economy that are unproductive and inefficient.
Be careful what you wish for. We could end up being like France.
Half Baked Regards......

Barry Hussein O's Dream
Had a great ride on Saturday. First long ride with the whole team. We met at 0645 and headed out around 0700. There were gobs of riders out, lots of teams. Our team has members with limited skills so we were spread out over the whole course. Still it was easy to hop on a pace line and cruise along at 20, 25 mph.
That got scary in Huntington Beach where the fog was so thick it condensed on my glasses. Couldn't see worth a crap. I let the bold and brazen pass me by.
Still, 70.49 miles, 5:19:55. Not bad. If I can do the 100 in under 9, I'll be happy.
Today, it was a run. Laced up the Brits and headed out for some hill work. Running along at a steady pace things start to take on a cadence, and today it was "Barak Obama President, Barak Obama President" that permeated my thoughts. What kind of thing is that to think of?
Then it hit me, after his big win in Iowa, he was prancing back and forth crowing about the strength of his win. He said he won because he was able to pull together Democrats (that's a surprise?), Independents (OK, maybe, who knows what moves an 'independent'), and Republicans.
Republicans? Republicans! Why would Barry say, or think, that he has the support of Republicans? He stands for no conservative position, so why would he say that?
Well call me a cynic, but, I'll bet what he meant was, "I got the support of people who want me to succeed because I'm black".
That probably describes some Republicans, the only Republicans who would support a leftist like Barry Hussein Obama.

Post New Year's Rides
Boy, the new year has new trauma. Been sick twice, making riding tough.
Went for a ride New Year's Day.
39.75 miles 2:59:48:98.
Rode today, mud on the trail, head winds and hills, not to mention hacking and coughing. Lots of young ladies on the trail today - always makes me ride a little faster.
29.63 miles 2:09:19:60
Things that'll kill me:
Pouring down rain, approaching a right turn lane. I leave plenty of room between me and the car ahead, just in case I gotta stop the Harley for something. Enough room for a bimbo in a beemer to come racing around me, slide into my comfort zone, and slam on the brakes so she can:
a. not hit the car ahead of her.
b. not spin out when she makes the turn.
c. scare a good 30 seconds off my already shorten life span.
Good thing I don't ride faster than my angels can fly.
